New Zealand isn’t really well known for its amazing waterfalls, but there definitely are a few awesome ones in the country. Bridal Veil falls on the western coast of the North Island is one to check out and it’s easy to get to. The falls are a quick walk from a small parking lot and there are 3 different platforms that give you a really good view. One near the top, one in the middle, and one at the bottom. This photo is taken from the middle one and I think it might have been my favourite.

The trees and bushes frame the platform in a perfect window of green. Also, from this angle you can definitely tell how the waterfall got its name.

Lots of people that are first starting out in photography seem to be very interested in taking the streamy waterall pictures. The good news is that it’s not hard to do at all. This effect is caused by a long shutter speed which captures the movement of the water and blurs it all together. Water starts to get this look around 1/30th of a second and is more exagerated the slower the shutter speed. After that, it’s a matter of experimentation with different shutter speeds as there is never one perfect speed for all situations. Depending on how fast the water is flowing and the pattern that it’s making, different shutter speeds with give different effects. The best thing to do, however, is to try new things and practice lots!
