DESCRIPTION

I would have to say that one of our greatest finds in Iceland was the waterfall called Sticafoss. We had to drive a bit off of the beaten path to find it and it required a bit of a hike to get to, but we had the whole place to ourselves once we arrived. The funny thing is that it’s only a short drive from the super popular Seljandsfoss waterfall that has a parking lot that is constantly full of tour busses. I guess it goes to show that no matter how busy and crowded places in this world seem to feel at times, there are always hidden treasures buried away in plain sight.

The extra cool thing about Sticafoss is that there is a massive cave behind the waterfall that you can walk into. There are a couple of other ones in Iceland that we visited that were similar, but Sticafoss was by far the best.

I set up my tripod with an intervalometer and walked into the picture to try to give the cave some perspective. Every time that I look at this photo though, I just think that the way that I’m kneeling on the rocks makes me look like some sort of Smeagle-like cave dweller. I guess that sort of thing would fit right in with the lore of Iceland.
