DESCRIPTION

The wooden covered Chapel Bridge in Lucerne Switzerland is likely the most distinctive and unique feature of the town and is very identifiable as “that wooden bridge in Lucerne.” It is incredibly old and has a long history, but I mostly like how awesome it looks in photos. During our time in Lucerne a few years ago, I found myself returning to the bridge many times to try to get photos of it from different perspectives and angles.

If you ever find yourself in Lucerne, there is another covered bridge further upstream that is equally impressive and has a somewhat darker feel to it. On both bridges, there are panels in the ceiling that have been painted with different scenes that surely have some sort of higher meaning that I never grasped.

While we wereg in Switzerland, I found the contrast between the modern and the historic to be very strange and apparent and this bridge was a good example of that. Everywhere that we went it seemed like there would be old churches and bridges, and immediately beside them would be a brand new building or fancy new car.
