DESCRIPTION

Sometimes there is nothing better than spending a night in the mountains in a tent. That was the plan on the night that I took this photo of the harvest moon rising behind the peak of Parrish Mountain in the Crowsnest Pass.

While it looks somewhat serene and peaceful, the wind howling and whipping around made sure that it wasn’t.

Shortly after taking this photo, we headed down from the ridge a bit to where we had pitched our tents to find out that they were being almost flattened to the ground with the strong gusts. After some discussion we decided that staying where we were wasn’t the best idea so we started to pack up and move elsewhere or head for home if we really had to.

We didn’t make it very far with the packing, however, before Ryan’s tent took flight and bounced down the ridge, spilling his gear all across the mountain. It wasn’t quite how we had planned the night and by the time that we got down we were discouraged and exhausted. But if adventures were successful and predictable every time that you went out they wouldn’t be nearly as rewarding.
