Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria, Germany is the kind of place that I could stare at forever. I like to imagine what building the castle would have been like and then what living in a place like that would have felt like. Imagine all of the different rooms and being able to climb up to the top of the turrets whenever you wanted to. That’s definitely where I would drink my glass of wine in the evening when the sun was setting and then tea again in the morning for the sunrise.

I guess living in a place like this castle you would have to know that all of your friends would expect you to host all of the parties. They’d be standing outside of your gates all of the time wanting to have poker nights and would expect you to have their birthday suppers in your main hall. I guess that’s just the small price you have to pay when you have your own castle though.

Anyways, enough day dreaming. On this trip, Hilary and I found ourselves crossing from Switzerland to the Czech Republic, and had a few days to spend in Germany. We decided to take a train a few hours south of Munich to the small town of Fussen. The Neuschwanstein Castle is located just outside of Fussen and on the day that we visited the castle a heavy rain settled in. This meant that our pictures were few and snuck in only when the rain eased slightly. We also had plans to walk up a steep ridge behind the castle (off to the right of the frame of this photo) but ended up cutting that short because of the slippery mud and cold rain. All in all, it was still a fun day, however, and if nothing else it made the photos that we did take a bit more dramatic and moody and the hot tea back at our hostel that evening tasted even better. We also watch the Germany vs. Brazil match of the 2014 World Cup while we were in Fussen which was definitely an experience.
