POW: Gasadalur and the Waterfall

While I was in the Faroe Islands, one of the places that topped my list of things that I wanted to photograph was the small town of Gasadalur. You can see it in the background of the photo. The town sits near the edge of the cliff on the rugged coast of the island and I was surprised to find out that it’s actually only about a 20 minute drive away from the airport.

So, when I first arrived on the Faroes, I headed to my hostel to drop a few things off and grab something to eat quick, and then I drove out to Gasadalur. I was so excited when I arrived so I walked around to find a cool place to take a photo of the town and the waterfall, set up my camera and took a few shots. Before I knew it, however, a cloud began to blow over the hills behind the town and a few minutes later, everything was completely engulfed. I couldn’t see a thing!

I waited around a while to see if it would clear and then packed up my things. I headed for the town and walked around the quiet streets in between the small buildings while it drizzled rain. Still the cloud hung around.

After a few hours of waiting and waiting, I gave up and headed for the car. I was coming back this way on the end of the trip so I thought I’d have another go then. Almost exactly the same thing happened when I came back 10 days later! I set up my camera, took a few shots and another cloud blew in and I couldn’t see a thing.

So two attempts and a handful of photos, but luckily a few turned out to be okay!
